Abstract

The history of social security in Ecuador has been linked to the historical development of the struggle between ideological, economic and political interests in the country, as well as to the protagonists at each moment of the struggle. The rights (principles) to universality and equity of the system have been the object of a dilated process of struggle and resistance that has not ended yet. This text aims to show the historical dynamism of the current architecture of Ecuadorian social security to better understand the obstacles, tensions, and possible advances or setback during the decade of 2008 to 2018 regarding the demands to materialize the constitutional right to social security, as well as to create an integrated system of universal and equitative social security in the country
