Abstract

The aim of this article is to verify the presence of non-adapted Latinisms in the collaboration contracts of the United States with the intention of observing the possibility or impossibility of extrapolating the existing literature concerning non-adapted Latinisms of the speciality language of legal English to the speciality sublanguage of legal English of contracts. On the one hand, the origins of Latin in legal English and its different contemporary manifestations have been addressed. On the other hand, a linguistic analysis on the non-adapted Latinisms of the texts under study has been conducted. For such purpose, a virtual and monolingual corpus was compiled from eighty collaboration contracts of the United States.
