The present thesis aims to identify the percentage of young people who independently and jointly comply with the recommendations for physical activity, screen time and sleep duration; to examine the relationship between independent and combined compliance of these three recommendations with academic performance and Mediterranean diet in young people; and to evaluate the effects of a school-based intervention carried out in tutorials to promote healthy habits in children. Five research studies were designed to meet these objectives. Study 1 is a systematic review and meta-analysis that identified studies that included recommendations for 24-Hour Movement Guidelines from preschoolers to adolescents. Studies 2, 3 and 4 are cross-sectional in design, involving 2217 young people aged 10-16 years from 22 secondary schools in Extremadura. Study 5 is a school-based intervention, in which 121 children between 8 and 9 years of age from two primary schools in Cáceres participated, of which 66 belonged to the control school and 55 to the experimental school. By means of different validated questionnaires, the variables assessed according to the study were: physical activity, screen time, sleep duration, academic performance and adherence to the Mediterranean diet. In conclusion, given that very few young people comply with the 24-Hour Movement Guidelines, more interventions are needed to promote healthy habits from the early years of primary school.
