Abstract
The Iberian pig is an autochthonous breed in the southwest of the Iberian Peninsula.Nowadays this breed has different productive systems in terms of feeding regime, breed purity and animal rearing conditions. This study evaluated fecal volatilomeanalysis through gas chromatography coupled to ion mobility spectrometry (GCIMS)as an analytical tool to distinguish breed purity of Iberian pigs. Volatilome of133 individual feces samples was analyzed and fingerprint information was used tobuild a classification model to discriminate breed: 100% or 50% Iberian pigs. Themodel was validated with blind samples and a correct classification percentage of96,2% was obtained. Although these results constitute interesting findings, a possibleinfluence of the feeding regime was detected in the model classification.
