Abstract

The Riquel or Riquelme linage belongs to the manor elite of Jerez de la Frontera since the late Middle Ages. That can be proven in their almost constant kinship with the Ponce de León linage. But it is one of the great unknown and proof of it is the lack of studies about this family. Among all its branches, the one headed by Juan Riquel, a leading character from the second half of the 15th century Jerez, stands out. The documentary collection is owned by Mrs. Carmen Riquelme Blanco and is named after her father Francisco Riquelme Gil, being the best witness to the splendor of this lineage. This article offers a proposal for the description and cataloging of the documentary collection that the aforementioned collection has for the 16th and 17th centuries. Undoubtedly this constitutes a valuable tool for the researcher.
