Abstract

This paper shows the results of a survey of drivers (n = 1474)conducted in Spain in 2017 for the purpose of studying their willingness to purchase zero emission vehicles (ZEV). The willingness to pay responses were analyzed using finite mixture models to identify the different underlying profiles in the sample. The results obtained show the existence of different subpopulations with different profiles and willingness to pay. The two groups with the highest willingness to pay (around 5,000 and 8,300 dollars), representing 15% and 18% respectively of the sample, are characterized by a higher level of knowledge related to ZEV. This result justifies the importance of public education campaignsregarding the characteristics and advantages of ZEV as compared to conventional vehicles
