Abstract

Eugenia de Battenberg was the most voted by the readers of the newspaper, it turned out to be a kind of prophetic contest since she was effectively the candidate who married Alfonso XIII. Alfonso XII, who had just turned 19, traveled to France and England in June and planned to go to Germany in the fall. Seeing these movements, the citizens began to think that the king was looking for a bride and candidates were considered. The question that the ABC newspaper asked its readers was: "Who will be the future queen of Spain?", in a contest that achieved enormous popularity in August 1905. It was the sixth edition of the contest and this time the theme was royalty, the future queen of Spain.
