Abstract

This study covers a question as interesting as it is complex, the circulation of compositional schemes and figurative themes in painting and mosaic, two of the decorative techniques omnipresent in Roman buildings, both public and private. To this end, we start with two case studies from the National Museum of Roman Art, specifically two sets of geometric and figurative decoration, which correspond to domestic spaces in the city of Mérida -the Alcazaba house and the house in Suárez Somonte street- whose discovery in the 1970s has not provided an adequate and complete stratigraphic context. In spite of this, the state of conservation and the decoration present allow us to verify the relationship of what is represented on both supports throughout the early and late imperial periods, and as a consequence, the circulation of the compositional cardboards
