Abstract

This essay addresses the crisis of the anthropocentric paradigm that has dominated the foundation of human dignity and fundamental rights. It reconstructs the emergence of this conceptualization in modernity to then verify its growing contemporary questioning in the face of social and ecological challenges. It examines alternative proposals such as the ethics of care, the theory of capabilities, and the consideration of the interests of all sentient beings, which broaden the vision beyond what is strictly human. It identifies contributions but also shortcomings in these emerging perspectives. Finally, it concludes by stating the need to transcend the anthropocentric paradigm and to formulate a more interdependent ethics.
