Resumo

This paper will analyse the significance of Artificial Intelligence and to a lesser extent of the Internet of Things from a historical materialist approach, based on the Fragment of the Machines of the Grundrisse (1858), i.e. on the potential of technology for social emancipation with respect to wage labour. The first point will focus on the historical origin and functioning of AI as an autonomous productive force in relation to mathematical algorithms. Next, an attempt will be made to decipher the ideological elements of AI in terms of the threefold conceptualisation provided by Marx in the German Ideology, i.e. ideology as false consciousness; as a set of ideas; or as the beliefs of a particular social group or class. Finally, we will reflect on the emancipatory potential of AI based on the concept of General Intellect in the framework of a debate reopened by several authors.
