Abstract

In recent decades, there has been a significant evolution in the approach to care for persons with disabilities and dependent persons, with a paradigm shift that places the individual at the centre and considers its social dimension rather than focusing solely on rehabilitation. Personal Assistance is a service provided by a personal assistant who performs or collaborates in the tasks of daily life, empowering people with disabilities and dependence. Through the description of the contextual, historical and legislative evolution of the Personal Assistance Service, this Doctoral Thesis frames the integration of two investigations in minors and seniors. The results indicate benefits for users, who are empowered through provision, have an independent life and significantly impact an improvement in the quality of life of the nearest environment.
