Resumo

According to Novo (1995), Environmental Education is a process that leads to reach a complex and committed vision about the reality of life and the role of men and women of our time in it. Environmental education means educating to understand the reality of human beings and their environment, and educating for a new form of operational relationship between humankind and the environment. This definition can be extended to the context of each school, since they must provide an educational response to it. All this, favouring a contact with reality by allowing the approach of close and real problems, with the possibility of influencing their transformation. The present work aims to carry out a reflection on the implementation of Environmental Education in the Spanish educational system and how it is being developed in schools, both as a cross-cutting issue in primary education and in the different subjects in secondary education. We emphasize that in the regulated field, the concepts of socio-educational intervention and environmental intervention are developed as two different aspects, with certain points in common, but with separate and unconnected methodologies and strategies. We consider that we must begin to build a model, centred on what we have wanted to call socio-environmental educational intervention, which combines both interventions. All this with the aim of ensuring that the integration of environmental education is developed in all aspects of the life and functioning of the centre.
