Abstract

In recent years, specialists in cultural heritage have focused on bringing knowledge about our past closerto the general public, through various exhibitions and workshops. They allow people to learn about dailylife common practices and aspects of the civilizations that preceded us and, in this way, to better understandthe archaeological remains that have been recovered and made available for everyone’s enjoyment. Aspart of this work, the development of educational workshops aimed at teaching, both children and adults, specific matters related to construction, craftsmanship or food is one of the most widely used resource, since it enables not only dynamic learning, but also the creation of group or family experiences thatreinforce these dynamics. Among the different implemented options, the development of painting workshopsis of great interest, since they deal with technical and decorative aspects of the Roman world, that allowboth learning and hands-on work. In this communication, we make a proposal for an educational workshopfor the Archaeological Museum of Portmán, and the site of the Roman villa of Portmán (Cartagena-LaUnión), which aims both to make known among the general public how the painting craft works, and how they decorated spaces, as well as a tool to promote the site’s valorisation. In this way, the aim is to raisesocial awareness of Portmán’s archaeological heritage and its surrounding area.
