Abstract

Roman wall painting is very interest from an archaeological point of view, due to the large amount ofinformation it provides for the study of the Roman world, from a chronological, architectural, functionalspatial, economic, social and political point of view. However, given how fragile the used materials are, aswell as how common it is to find them fragmented, its study requires an important training that goes beyondits technical-descriptive or composition analysis. This should include how to extract, store, analyse, as wellas its conservation and restoration. In this sense, European schools, especially Italian and French, awareof these needs, have developed specialisation courses over the years, in study centres created specificallyfor this field of research, aimed at providing new researchers with the necessary tools and knowledge. InSpain, despite some exception, like a previous attempt made by the Aragon Restoration Workshop School, that operated between 2004 and 2011; or a university, such as the University of Granada, which has beenworking on the restoration of Roman mural painting for the last five years; the lack of centres and related programs limits the possibilities of training new specialists for the study of Roman wall painting in Spain. In view of this situation, this paper aims to lay the foundations for the creation of a workshop with thesecharacteristics based on what was established by French and Italian researchers, that will train futureresearchers.
