Resumo

In this work, readers will find elements that allow them to understand some of the most interesting historical collections in Ibero-America: convent and religious libraries. These spaces, privileged for the development of written culture from the sixteenth to the nine- teenth centuries, are the object of analysis based on which the authors participating in this volume reflect on the meaning and representation of the written word in our past. The volume brings together Ibero-American researchers of cultural history and writ- ten culture and historians of religious orders to discuss and dialogue on the history of convent libraries and the written culture of the regular clergy in Ibero-America during the mentioned centuries. Thus, throughout eight chapters, the book gives an account of the methodological proposals and the multidisciplinary work developed in the histori- ography of different countries and unifies them in a single volume.
