La dieta Low-FODMAP en el Síndrome de Intestino Irritable¿Es actualmente un tratamiento nutricional ineficaz? Mejoría sintomática

Résumé

Introducción: El Síndrome de Intestino Irritable (SII) es uno de los trastornos funcionales más prevalentes en la población. Se trata de una enfermedad compleja y multifactorial en la que factores biológicos, psicológicos y sociales actúan a múltiples niveles sobre la enfermedad. Diagnosticada en función de ROMA IV y caracterizada principalmente por dolor abdominal y cambio en los hábitos intestinales, no posee un tratamiento estándar, por lo que se enfoca a minimizar los síntomas gastrointestinales. La dieta FODMAP ha surgido como un método eficaz en el tratamiento del SII.Objetivos: El objetivo principal de este estudio fue probar la eficacia de la dieta FODMAP, en sus distintas fases del tratamiento dietético para la disminución de los síntomas gastrointestinales y el aumento de la calidad de vida.Métodos: Se diseñó un estudio experimental prospectivo con una duración de 12 semanas en una mujer de 35 años que padecía SII desde hace 7 años. El tratamiento dietético se dividió en tres fases, durante las cuales se realizaron 12 dietas, educación y consejo dietético, evaluación de la sintomatología, de la calidad de vida, del tipo de heces, la adherencia a la dieta y la satisfacción hacia el tratamiento dietético.Resultados: Los síntomas gastrointestinales y la calidad de vida mejoraron en comparación con el inicio del estudio, al igual que las heces tanto en brotes de crisis como rutinariamente. Por el contrario, no se halló relación entre los alimentos reintroducidos que produjeron síntomas con su contenido en FODMAP´s.Conclusiones: El tratamiento nutricional de la dieta FODMAP es un tratamiento eficaz para el Síndrome de Intestino Irritable pues disminuye la sintomatología de la enfermedad, aumenta la calidad de vida y el control del paciente hacia la dieta.
