Abstract

The research is described as the creation and implementation of a dynamic strategy based on the Pólya method. By adapting information and communication technologies (ICT) to a virtual environment, the logical mathematical thinking of university students is developed. Design-based research covers six stages: 1) Development and validation of a methodology to evaluate mathematical competencies; 2) preliminary evaluation of the level of competencies; 3) Designing and development of a dynamic strategy using tools such as VLO and tutorials in Moodle to applying them in a pilot group; 4) Implementation of the strategy with 20 students (experimental group); 5) comparative study of the competence acquired after completing the course, from the 20 students of the experimental group and 18 who did not use the strategy (control group); and 6) a descriptive study of the satisfaction of the students who participated in the strategy regarding the Virtual Learning Objects (VLO) and the development of their competences. Inferential and descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data. The results of the evaluation of the strategy show that the student from the experimental group advanced in more than four times the level of development of the mathematical competences in the solution of problems and there is satisfaction in the students' perception with the acquired learning, the value of the virtual learning objects (VLO) and with the experience, as well. In addition, the effectiveness of the evaluation instrument is verified.
