Trained at Yale and the Johns Hopkins University, Bethany Aram is associate professor at the Pablo de Olavide University, in Seville, Spain. She directed the research project "ArtEmpire" (ERC CoG 648535) funded by the European Commission (Horizon 2020) as well as a complementary project on the seventeenth-century crisis, conflict and culture (3C) financed by Spain's Ministry of Innovation and Competitivity (HAR2014-52260-P), examining the impact of a convergence of peoples and goods from around the world on the isthmus of Panamá during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. She has co-designed an interdisciplinary database and is the author of two books and numerous articles, as well as co-editor (with Bartolomé Yun Casalilla) of a collection of essays.
