Impacto de la Derecha Radical sobre la Calidad de la Democracia en Europa (1980-2020)

Resumen

El creciente protagonismo de partidos de derecha radical en Europa ha estado acom-pañado de estudios académicos sobre su rendimiento electoral y análisis de su discurso político. No obstante, la vía de estudio sobre las consecuencias y efectos de la presencia de estos partidos ha sido poco abordada. El objetivo de esta investigación es examinar el impacto de la derecha radical en la calidad de la democracia, poniendo el foco en 25 países europeos en el periodo 1980-2020. A través de técnicas multivariantes, se busca correlacionar la presencia de derecha radical en legislaturas con la evolución del índice de democracia liberal (que muestra la salud de los mecanismos políticos e institucionales), el índice de equal protection (que mide los de-rechos y libertades de los diferentes grupos sociales) y el índice de exclusión por géne-ro (que da cuenta del grado de consecución de la igualdad de género). Los resultados apuntan, aunque de forma modesta, que la presencia de los partidos de derecha radical está unida a un empeoramiento de la calidad democrática en algunos aspectos generales y específicos de derechos y libertades. No así, sin embargo, en lo relativo a la igualdad de género. Los hallazgos indican el interés de abordar una agenda comparativa de corte empírico sobre la cuestión
