Doctor by the Universidad de Málaga with the thesis Estrategia computacional para la asignación funcional de proteínas abordando el problema de multidominio 2003. Supervised by Dr. Guillermo Thode Mayoral, Dr. Oswaldo Trelles.

Degree and PhD in Biology with thesis specialized in Bioinformatics (2003). Two-month stay at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) with EMBO grant (2002) and postdoctoral contract at the National Institute of Bioinformatics (INB; 2004-2007). Since 2007 Associate Professor at the Pablo de Olavide University (UPO), and since 2018 Full Professor. Responsible for the UPOBioinfo group, with research line in computational analysis of biological sequences associated with human diseases. Interested in the analysis of sequences and gene expression related to genetic diseases, mainly rare diseases such as Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), and in the analysis of bacterial pangenomes of species causing infections in humans, with special interest in the study of CRISPR-Cas defense systems and bacteriophages. More than 50 published articles indexed in SCIE and 2 supervised theses (and other 2 in process). Director of the Scientific Computing Center of the UPO (C3UPO) since 2015, director of the official Master in Health Biotechnology (2010-2022), and currently director of an online Diploma and Master in Bioinformatics Analysis of the UPO (since 2015). -- Licenciado y Doctor en Biología con tesis en Bioinformática (2003). Estancia de dos meses en el Laboratorio Europeo de Biología Molecular (EMBL) con beca EMBO (2002) y contrato postdoctoral en el Instituto Nacional de Bioinformática (INB; 2004-2007). Desde 2007 Profesor Contratado Doctor en la Universidad Pablo de Olavide (UPO), y desde 2018 Profesor Titular. Responsable del grupo UPOBioinfo, con línea de investigación en análisis computacional de secuencias biológicas asociadas a enfermedades humanas. Interesado en el análisis de secuencias y expresión génica relacionadas con enfermedades genéticas, principalmente enfermedades raras como la Atrofia Muscular Espinal (AME), y en el análisis de pangenomas bacterianos de especies causantes de infecciones en humanos, con especial interés en el estudio de los sistemas de defensa CRISPR-Cas y bacteriófagos. Más de 50 artículos publicados indexados en JCR y 2 tesis dirigidas (otras 3 en proceso). Director del Centro de Computación Científica de la UPO (C3UPO) desde 2015, director del Máster oficial en Biotecnología de la Salud (2010-2022), y actualmente director de un Diploma y Máster online en Análisis Bioinformático de la UPO (desde 2015).
